Workshop: The campus in 50 years – learning, environments and a changing society

What will count as knowledge in the future? Will degrees be needed in the same way as today? And if learning happens everywhere, why should people gather on campus? These are some of the questions we explore in this workshop.
During this morning session, we bring together participants from academia, business, the public sector and civil society to explore together what the learning, knowledge and learning environments of the future might look like. The focus is not primarily on architecture, but on the role a campus plays in a society where learning is increasingly distributed – between people, workplaces, digital environments and AI systems.
We want to shift the conversation from “What will the campus of the future look like?” to “Why do people gather to learn, and what does a campus need to make possible?”
During the workshop, we turn over questions that are often taken for granted:
– What will count as knowledge in the future?
– Will degrees be needed in the same way as today?
– How do we build learning environments that strengthen meaning, belonging and agency?
– What happens to learning when AI becomes part of the process itself?
The workshop will be led by, among others, Olof Gränström from Skellefteå Universities Alliance. Around ten students from Chapman University in California will also take part on site.
The outcome will be concrete foresight material in the form of a white paper with scenarios and ideas for the learning environments of the future. The material will also be presented as a public installation on campus.
The workshop will be held in English and places are limited.
