Are you passionate about sports and health? Train to become a chiropractor in Skellefteå and encounter an industry with high demand. Jörgen Lindbäck has 22 years of experience, runs his own clinic, and takes care of the stars in Skellefteå AIK Hockey.
For Jörgen Lindbäck, the choice was obvious. With a background in sports and personal experience of how a chiropractor could help him, he chose the program at Scandinavian College of Chiropractic in Stockholm. Since graduating in 2002, he has had his own clinic in Skellefteå, and for the past 10–12 years, he has been operating in the same building as Friskvårdskompaniet.
– I really enjoy it, it's a freedom to work for myself, he says.
As a chiropractor, he helps with many types of problems in the body. Pain and discomfort can, for example, arise from uneven load, monotonous work tasks, poor ergonomics, stress or mental health issues.
Today he treats everyone from youth to the elderly and assists his patients with various pain issues, but it often concerns pain in the neck, shoulders, and lower back.
– There is a high demand for chiropractors, and the more of us there are, the greater the need becomes. There is no shortage of work, he says.
Working with Skellefteå AIK – an important part of the team's performance
In addition to running his clinic, Jörgen Lindbäck is part of the medical team at Skellefteå AIK Hockey. He has worked with the team for seven seasons and also travels with them for away games.
– It provides an incredible variety in the job. Being able to witness the players' development is very enjoyable, he says.
Together with the team's chiropractor, doctors, and other medical staff, he conducts injury assessments, helps players with adjustments, and determines if anyone needs taping or rehab.
– I make assessments and treatments using chiropractic techniques, he explains.
The education is now available in Skellefteå – many parts are online
Previously, the chiropractic education was only available in Stockholm, but now it can also be studied in Skellefteå. The theoretical courses are online and the practical meetings are on campus, so even those who have some distance to travel can take the course. For those who enjoy physiology, anatomy, and working with people, it could be a perfect career path.
– I believe you should visit the school and talk to people to get a feel for the education. To enjoy the profession, you need to be interested in working with people and conducting examinations. It is a very rewarding education, and it feels like time goes by quickly while studying.
He has no plans to stop being a chiropractor – quite the opposite.
– I would happily work well into retirement age. I really enjoy my profession and it feels meaningful to help people. The best part of the job is the interaction with the patients, and no day is the same as the other, he says.
