Workshop: Campus in 50 Years – Learning, Environments, and Society in Change

Workshop: Campus in 50 Years – Learning, Environments, and Society in Change

Think 50 years back. We find ourselves in a different educational world: different tools, different norms, different opportunities – but also the same human needs for context, belonging, and meaning. The point of 50 years is not to guess details. The point is to choose which questions we dare to keep open, and which principles we want to lock down.

We plan the campus as if it were a building. But the campus is always more than walls. The campus is also a way to organize relationships: between student and teacher, between education and society, between knowledge and responsibility.

What happens if we shift the conversation?
From "what does the campus look like?" to "what kind of learning does the campus enable – and for whom?"

This workshop is a joint exploration of exactly that. We want participants from academia, business, the public sector, and civil society to think beyond today’s structures. And dare to question what feels obvious. Is the degree still the center? What counts as knowledge? If learning happens everywhere – why should people gather on campus?

The focus is not primarily on architecture, but on principles. On what role the campus should play in a larger learning ecosystem. On how we empower the individual's agency. On how technology, humans, and society can collaborate – without losing ethics, inclusion, and meaning along the way.

The result will be a concrete future material in the form of a white paper with scenarios, clear design principles, identified goal conflicts, and ideas for future learning environments. A basis that can influence how we plan, prioritize, and develop the campus going forward, and which will also be manifested in a public installation.

The workshop is led by, among others, Olof Gränström from Skellefteå Universities Alliance and will be conducted in English. Welcome!
