Workshop: Campus in 50 Years – Learning, Environments, and Society in Change
Workshop: Campus in 50 Years – Learning, Environments, and Society in Change

What counts as knowledge in the future? Will degrees matter in the same way they do today? And if learning happens everywhere, why should people gather on a campus at all? These are some of the questions we will explore during this workshop.
During this morning session, we will bring together participants from academia, industry, the public sector and civil society to explore how future learning, knowledge and learning environments might evolve. The focus is not primarily on architecture, but on the role campus plays in a society where learning is becoming increasingly distributed — between people, workplaces, digital environments and AI systems.
We want to shift the conversation from “What will the campus of the future look like?” to “Why do people gather to learn, and what should campus actually enable?”
Throughout the workshop, we will challenge questions that are often taken for granted:
– What counts as knowledge in the future?
– Will degrees matter in the same way they do today?
– How do we create learning environments that strengthen meaning, belonging and agency?
– What happens to learning when AI becomes part of the process itself?
The workshop will be led by, among others, Olof Gränström from Skellefteå Universities Alliance. A group of students from Chapman University in California will also participate on site.
The outcome will be a concrete future-oriented white paper featuring scenarios and ideas for future learning environments. The material will also be presented as a public installation on campus.
The workshop will be held in English and the number of seats is limited.
Welcome!
